There are billions of books in the world and all of them have some sort

of theme, but Kindred by Octavia Butler has a theme that makes you realize so many things. Kindred by Octavia Butler is a story of an 20th century woman named Dana . Dana and her husband Kevin have a n

ormal life until something happens that will change their lives forever.

The day Dana met Rufus, the son of a slave owner in the 1800’s. I

think that the main theme of this book is that the settings can affect a person in many ways, so we need to be open-minded.

                               

                             One reason I chose this thesis was because

many people don't know how easy they've got it, and I think this

book reminds us all that. People always whine but they would never

survive  a day doing what their ancestors did every single day.

                               Another reason I chose this thesis is that people’s

point of view changes throughout the setting. I think this book really

shows how we need to be open minded.It helps us realize many things and Octavia Butler found a great way to tell us that.By taking  modern day African-American woman and taking her back to the 1800’s and live the lives of her ancestors.It shows us the different perspectives by introducing us to Rufus, a slave owners son.

                              My last reason why I chose this thesis is that Octavia Butler really let us connect to the characters . We had both perspectives

of present and past that helped us understand her message better.

                               In conclusion Kindred by Octavia Butler is a great

book which was a very important and valuable theme. It has helped me

be more open-minded  and see and understand others opinions.

COLLEGE FOR ALL

          The college for all field trip was pretty good. I liked the boardwalk better
but thecolleges were cool too. I liked CAL POLY SAN LUIS OBISPO better. I feel
like we didn't see UCSB as much and didn't see inside, only the outside and the beach.
 UCSC was pretty good too. That one guy got everything paid for him at the college
 so that can be one of my choices and its not as far. They all had cool classes and nice
people but UCSC looked like they had more latinos  than the other colleges. So far
I see myself going to CAL POLY SAN LUIS OBISPO.
         I want a college with people that relate to me but not too much so there's
different people to talk to and learn about other peoples life. I would also want a
college that would give some scholarships and have good resources like books
and equipment. But so far I like CAL POLY SAN LUIS OBISPO, so a school
like that

SPEECH

Hello allow me to introduce myself I am Sir.Curtis
Alexander Corneille De la olla the third, and I am a
southern male plantation owner, and I am representing
all plantation owners in the south. Things we have done
in America is make slaves plant, and harvest tobacco, by
planting tobacco it has contributed to America’s economy
by selling tobacco to people for them to smoke. some
struggles we have had is that slavery could end in 20
years, and it could end in 1808. It has been a struggle
because slaves have run away, and a way that I have
established my plantation is that if slaves ran away and
they got caught they would return them to me. Another
struggle is that if we loose slaves we start loosing power.
What I have done to find the United States is by making
slaves plant, and harvest tobacco. I did not help during the
revolution i just made slaves work and I hunted down the
slaves that tried to run away.
In my own opinion its well that slaves
only count as ⅗ of a person in representation and that
means more power for me. I got more representation in
congress. I am not so thrilled about how they said they
might end the slave trade in 1808. If they do then I’m out
of business and I will be broke. Other than that it’s great
that I have slaves and even if they try to escape they will
be caught and brought back to me . That benefits me
thanks to the fugitive slave cause. So slaves are awesome
for me and i get more money for bossing slaves around.

FREEDOM

Many people always ask for freedom
but most of the time they need someone to lead them
for many centuries people have fought to be free
but people still live with all the misery
I don’t think to be free is to do whatever you feel like
but to have the option to do what you enjoy like skate or ride a bike
be able to think and be listened to
not to do, but be whatever you want to

THE MASK

The mask that I have is the one that you see
This is who I really am, this is my identity
I act the same at school as I do at home
even though I'm the guy people leave alone
I admit I have some talent that I don't really show
but when I tell one person, then in 1 minute every one knows
I'm quiet at home and at school
if you get to know me, you might think I'm cool
I'm a son, a student, and a brother
sometimes i hate my sister, but i wouldn't change her for another
like every one I'm also a villain
but I also like to be chillin
I don't try to hide with a mask
we need to destroy the mask, that's our only task
